Places to Eat: Mozelle’s in Winston-Salem, NC

For our first meal in Winston-Salem, NC on a recent mother-daughter trip with my mom, we stopped by Mozelle’s Fresh Southern Bistro for lunch.  It was a late Friday afternoon, but the restaurant was still busy with most tables filled with lots of food and smiling faces.

I always prefer to dine at local restaurants, so being able to check out this local hot spot was a great start to our mother-daughter weekend getaway.

Mozelle’s is named after the owner’s grandmother and has a unique menu that blends classic favorites with unexpected ingredients.  We started with the Southern Spring Rolls which lived up to the restaurant’s reputation.  They were made with a deliciously surprising mix of pulled pork, shiitakes, Napa cabbage, collards and sesame ginger.

For our main course, we opted to each try something a little different.  While it was tough to decide from a well-stocked menu filled with tempting dishes, I ordered the Chili-Rubbed Chicken Salad.  It was deliciously comprised of chili lime-rubbed chicken, arugula, jasmine rice, pico de gallo, fried chickpeas, avocado and cotija topped with a lime cilantro vinaigrette.  It was the perfect option for a filling yet refreshing summer meal.  After a great debate between ordering the Spring Strawberry Salad with Salmon or a more hearty dish, my mom landed on Mozelle’s famous Tomato Pie.  Of course, we had to share because everything was too tasty to keep to ourselves and both dishes delighted our tastebuds!

If you’re ever in Winston-Salem, I would recommend stopping by Mozelle’s for a meal.  The staff was friendly and although the seating was tight, it’s definitely worth checking this place out.  Just look for the beautiful orange umbrellas adorning the sidewalk tables complete with orange throws to keep you warm on those brisk spring days!

  1. Mozelle’s does everything right! The decor, service and food were spectacular. You know it’s really good food when you get sad at the end of the meal because you don’t want to stop eating and enjoying the experience.
