Black & White Gingham Fall Tablescape

At the end of every season, I always love to scoop up various decor and holiday pieces that go on sale but could work for year-round decorations.  When I found a set of black and white gingham linen napkins and matching placemats on sale at the end-of-summer, I knew I had found my inspiration for our Thanksgiving tablescape.  Layer in some neutral pumpkins, a little greenery and a few other pieces I had around the house and I was smitten with this easy black and white gingham fall tablescape.

The Foundation

As per usual, I started with my solid white linen tablecloth as the foundation for my table setting.  I found the black and white gingham placemats and linen napkins at Tuesday Morning.  The scalloped edge added an extra bit of design that I immediately fell in love with.  And as an added bonus, the placemats were double-sided which meant one side featured a large gingham print and the other featured a smaller tight-designed gingham print.

The Plate Setting

I started with a brown rattan charger set that I picked up at Cost Plus World Market and used for last year’s Thanksgiving tablescape as well.  These have been some of my favorite chargers and I’m slowly adding other woven accents to my collection to complement them. For the main dinner plate, I used the sage-green lettuce leaf China that got from Tuesday Morning and topped it with a Lenox Venetian Lace salad plate from wedding China collection.

The Centerpiece

I opted out of a traditional centerpiece for the table and decided to go a little more natural – a row of pumpkins.  In fact, most of the house was filled with pumpkins of varying sizes and color throughout this fall and I’ve really been digging them!  Most of the pumpkins I had for this shoot were from Trader Joes and my local pumpkin patch down the road.  The muted colors compared to the bright orange traditional pumpkins had me wishing I could leave this set up on my table year round!

The Essentials

To keep things simple, I used my classic tall glassware with black and white striped straws for guests to use.  Mine are from Ikea and cost less than $1 each so I don’t have to worry much if any of them break or chip.  I love having a few options for flatware and this gorgeous set of gold and white dipped flatware has been on my Amazon favorites list for a while.  I finally decided to purchase them to finish off my place settings and I couldn’t be happier. These are a definitely great staple that I will leverage for future parties.  They also come in various color options so you might see more varieties coming through this blog in the future!

The Mantle

This was one of my favorite holiday mantles to decorate this year.  I wanted something clean and simple that would complement the color palette from the table and play off of the black and white gingham.  The boxwood wreath and “Thankful” wreath holder were from one of my favorite stores, Swoozies, and created the perfect color combination to hang over the front of my mirror.  My wooden candle pillars from World Market played beautifully against the white mantle and light walls to match the mirror’s dark rim as it hung above the fireplace.

In addition to the mantle decor from Swoozies, I also incorporated this sweet little pumpkin cutting board with a “Thankful” cheese knife to go with it.  Swoozies is always one of my first stops for party essentials like paper plates and napkins.  But they also have a ton of great home accents, candles, and other gifts too including customizable cutting boards that would make the perfect hostess gift if you’re heading to someone’s Friendsgiving this year!
